We've got great holiday cottages for rent throughout Roscommon from Knockvicar and Boyle near Lough Key to near Athlone on Lough Ree. It is a county of quiet country lanes and silver lakes. The area has strong musical connections - it was the birthplace of Percy French. The town of Boyle is home to one of Ireland's principal lakeside attractions, Lough Key Forest Park, which offers nature walks, ring forts, cruising, fishing, a bog-garden, an old ice-house and picnic grounds. Herds of deer wander freely through the park. Other attractions in include Drumanone Dolmen (one of the largest in Ireland) and Boyle Abbey. It's also worth exploring the ruins of Roscommon Castle. Plus don't miss the Agrina Mining Experience (coalmine closed in 1990 - but you can still go down the pit), the famine museum at Strokestown Park House, which gives a unique insight into the lives of the Irish people who battled against 'the famine'.
